POSITION SUMMARY :
Howell Laboratories, Inc.(HLI) is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) engineering and manufacturing company based in Bridgton, ME. The Human Resource Assistant will perform administrative tasks and services to support the effective and efficient operations of the organizations human resource department in both the Bridgton and Gorham locations.
Were seeking an HR Assistant to assist in day-to-day operations of the HR Department. The ideal candidate will have experience in HR and be willing to increase their knowledge in this field. The HR assistant will need to have strong communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
Maintains employee records.Maintains employee records.Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.Performs administrative and recordkeeping.Answers frequently asked questions from employees about standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etcMaintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to collect and file all required documents appropriately.Assist in providing day-to-day performance management guidance to managers and supervisors.May assist with payroll functions, including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.Maintains accurate records of active job openings and received applications; manages internal and external job postings.Assists in recruiting and interviews and helps facilitate hiring qualified job applicants for open positionsConducts background checks and employee eligibility verifications.Assists with new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and / or sensitive matters to HR Manager.Assists with administering employee benefits, which may include collecting and submitting employee information and notice of change in status to health, dental, life, disability, and other insurance carriers or insurance brokers.Conducts I-9 audits.Performs other duties as assigned.Required skills and qualification
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or related software.Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.Preferred skills and qualifications :
Certificate in Human Resources or 3 years in an HR Support role.Prior related office experience preferred.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
