Job Summary
The Range Safety Officer (RSO) must possess the skills and aptitude to effectively organize and conduct safe shooting activities as well as excellent customer service and communication skills. An RSO must be able to work well with others, take initiative, and be proactive in providing a safe environment for customers. They must be proficient in gun cleaning and proper maintenance for range and customer guns.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Check and verify customers upon their completion of the online liability EZ waiver; confirming that they completed it correctly.
- Educate and teach customers weapons safety, handling, and marksmanship fundamentals
- Inform customers on the rules of the range and standard operating procedures before allowing entrance
- Conduct range walks, assuring all customers are following safe weapons handling, assisting with malfunctions, and/or any other issue a customer may have with their weapon
- Remain vigilant on shift, viewing the security cameras in order to maintain the safety of all employees and customers
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to work weekends
- Administer rules and regulations in a professional manner
- Open and close the range following all procedures as directed by the supervisor on shift.
- Follow hygiene and PPE procedures as it relates to preventing lead exposure or injuries
Qualifications:
Experience: Must be 21 years or older and able to pass a background check in order to receive a Certificate of Eligibility from the state of California
Education: High school diploma or GED. Must have an NRA RSO certification as well as an NRA basic pistol certification.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Operations Manager and Range Supervisors
Supervision Exercised: Looking out for the customers’ safety within the range
Mental and Physical Demands: Ability to think clearly while upholding all safety practices even with difficult customers. Standing and walking around frequently. Dealing with and explaining the importance of weapons safety and handling procedures.
