Job Title: Courier/General Maintenance

Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week (position is not eligible for 4 days/10 hrs during summer months)


Wages:
Range from Step 1 - $22.00/hour; Step 2 - $22.83/hour; Step 3 - $23.66/hour; Step 4 - $24.50/hour


Start date:
Earliest start date will be Monday, May 12, 2025


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Courier Responsibilities:

  • Daily mail runs:
    • Morning (AM) mail run - Voyager, Northwest, Hutchings.
    • Afternoon (PM) mail run - HHS-FC, Highlander Way, LESA, HHS 10-12, Operations, Challenger, Southwest, Innovation Academy, LHLC, Three Fires, & Parker.
  • Pitney Bowes mailing machine:
    • Meters all outgoing district mail.
    • Maintains meter machine (clean, track and request funds for machine).
    • Calls Pitney Bowes with maintenance issues as needed.
  • Handles all district outgoing UPS, FedEx and USPS shipments.
  • Handles all return address envelopes for each building.
  • Move boxes from various departments throughout the district.
  • Handle operations work orders as assigned (moving items, etc.).
  • Moves shredding items to the assigned location for destruction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Warehouse Responsibilities:

  • Fills all district custodial orders and delivers as needed.
  • Organizes and takes inventory of the warehouse as needed.
  • Picks up custodial orders, coordinated on mail runs or available time in schedule.
  • Unloads trucks and puts away stock.
  • Works with the operations secretary regarding inventory and stock that needs to be ordered.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Food Service Responsibilities:

  • Completes daily deliveries to and from buildings including deposits, invoices and orders from kitchens in the afternoon mail run.
  • Unloads truck deliveries and puts away stock, currently Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Transfers stock and equipment throughout the district.
  • Delivers items for catering events.
  • Sweeps and mops the cooler, freezer and warehouse pantry, when time permits.
  • Assists with the opening and closing of kitchens at various buildings at the start and end of the school year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Maintenance/Grounds Responsibilities:

  • Operates lawn maintenance equipment during the summer months.
  • Assists with general maintenance requests, such as moving furniture, changing blinds or filters in buildings, or light painting during slower periods throughout the year.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in general maintenance or as courier/driver preferred but not required.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License with clean driving record required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, delivery orders and memos; and
  • Ability to work with various district employees.

COMPUTER SKILLS:


Basic computer skills.


QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
  • Proficient in problem solving skills;
  • Accurate and detail oriented;
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as operation of a motor vehicle. The employee is required to be on their feet walking around inside or outside of school buildings and grounds for several hours at a time. The employee is regularly required to exert medium to intense physical effort involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision and ability to adjust focus.


ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:


The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet (ex. driving, delivering mail/items to buildings) to very loud (using lawn maintenance equipment) depending upon the work function. The work environment includes being indoors with controlled climate conditions and outdoors which will vary in accordance with the weather. The employee will be required to be outdoors for longer periods of time during the summer months, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job.
