Position Title : Food Service Assistant #13 - TEMPORARY
Location : Howell High School
Reports To : Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and / or Principal / Assistant Principal
Status : Ten (10) month position
First day of school for students - Last day of school for students
Base Work Hours : 3.75 hours (10 : 00 a.m. to 1 : 45 p.m.)
Extended Work Hours : 4.25 hours (9 : 45 a.m. to 2 : 00 p.m.)
FLSA Status : Non-exempt
SUMMARY :
The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by assisting the Kitchen Manager and the Food Service Supervisor in the overall management and organization of the food service program all while providing excellent customer service to staff, students and families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Obtain counts for GSRP (lunch, next day breakfast and snack).
- Clean and sanitize work area and countertops.
- Prepare all food for GSRP per the counts ordered per set menu. Cook hot food as close to
- delivery time as possible. Once food is prepared, store items properly in warmer or cooler until time to load cart(s).
- Record beginning quantities of all food on GSRP Food Production Records (FPR's).
- If time allows, and is needed, cash a register during lunch at the High School.
- Back-up the Food Service box truck to the loading dock.
- Load food for GSRP into transport cart(s).
- Wheel carts on the box truck and secure.
- Safely drive and operate the box truck to deliver food for GSRP to Little Highlanders.
- Drive box truck back to the kitchen and do any meal prep or traying up of items needed for the following day per GSRP menu.
- Inform Kitchen Manager when inventory of GSRP menu items is low.
- Help wipe down tables in the cafeteria and commons.
- Fit in a 15 minute paid lunch break.
- Help clean and sanitize dishes.
- Drive box truck back to Little Highlanders and pick up transport cart(s).
- Return cart(s) back to the High School, unload the cart(s), empty dirty pans from cart(s) and take them to the dishroom to be cleaned.
- Record leftovers and all ending quantities on GSRP Food Production Records (FPR's).
- Wipe down transport cart(s).
- Help clean coolers, ovens, hot carts, and other equipment according to schedule.
- Clean kitchen bathroom per schedule set by Kitchen Manager.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
- Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor.
Note : Food Service Employees running a register must maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts and need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes : computer register / monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to be on his / her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY :
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee's automobile between buildings is required.
