Senior Project Engineer - New Product Introduction

Responsibilities

This NPI SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER - PRODUCT position will be located in Whitehall (Michigan) Casting and will assume direct responsibility for executing activities around new product introductions. This position will be expected to build strong relationships with customers and suppliers; spec and coordinate building of part specific tooling; develop and troubleshoot dimensional aspects of assigned parts; coordinate qualification of assign parts; prepare part specific work instructions; maintain knowledge of job cost; thrive in a team environment with other product, process, quality and manufacturing engineers; and develop/implement appropriate plans to meet performance goals.

Responsibilities

This position must possess technical leadership skills and will be involved in the development and implementation of complex and critical aerospace components in the most economical and profitable way to Howmet.

• Plans and formulates new product introduction engineering programs within area of assigned responsibility.
• Engages with customers to provide concurrent engineering support for NPI.
• Implements and reviews parts, tooling and process designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements and related specifications.
• Supports activities concerned with technical development, customer issues, cost reduction programs and in resolving engineering design and test problems.
• Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
• Prepares interim and completion project report, as necessary.
• Provides technical support for assigned new product introduction area of assignment.
• Provide mentorship to other, typically less experienced engineers in the department as needed.
• Interfaces with production personnel regarding all processing requirements. Interacts with suppliers and customers on technical issues.
• Performs process quality investigations, as required.
• Develops and implements process improvements and cost reductions.
• Designs tools and fixtures pertinent to processing.
• Generates material requisitions to initiate procurement.
• Translates customer requirements into usable work instructions and interfaces with customer on technical issues.
• Review purchase orders, specifications and blueprints for impact.
• Assembles data packages for customer approval.
• Specifies processing and generates work instructions.
• Actively pursues elimination of waste, the improvement of equipment reliability and efficiency, and the reduction of operating costs. Employs statistical methods as necessary.
