SUMMARY
The Engineering Manager is an experienced leader within the Engineering field that manages, plans, directs, evaluates and improves operations for a variety of commercial building projects and clients. This role is responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, managing complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, managing a design team, and contributing to the overall business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as Engineer of Record for design projects
- Serve as a recognized technical expert in engineering discipline
- Serve as technical liaison on matters pertaining to design
- Communicate with and manage clients
- Serve as the people manager for the design team
- Develop training schedule for design team
- Provide consultation to management, designers and clients
- Provide routine project and performance feedback to design team
- Provide technical leadership in design reviews, modifications and recommends modifications
- Enhance technical excellence in design team
- Identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of the discipline are needed or where technical training is needed
- Establish a total quality management strategy to assure early involvement on design processes
- Provide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology smoothly into design
- Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical area
- Lead the quality control process on assigned projects
- Coach and mentor team members
- Identify and mitigate potential risks / issues throughout project life cycle
- Coordinate with internal engineering disciplines as needed including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection to ensure the project designs are effectively integrated for each project
- Perform initial site investigations and observations of work done by the installing contractor(s) related to contracted projects
- Develop and maintain positive client relationships
- Attend construction site observations and construction administration
- Maintain project details and progress in CRM
- Project management and design duties as needed or required
