What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance/Grounds keeper position at HPZ?
This position is ideal for a driven and team oriented individual that can manage keeping up with tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment working with many departments to meet specific needs. Grounds keepers work in a goal-driven environment to ensure that guests and animal collection enjoy a clean and safe environment. This position works in a variety of locations including, behind the scenes staff areas, outside exhibits, and more. Ability to work on weekends and after hours for events as needed, required. Preferred experience - commercial, institutional, industrial, etc.

- Responsibilities**:
- Must have a positive attitude, good communication skills and be a team player
- Portray a helpful attitude when interacting with our Guests
- Project a professional image while in uniform and respond to radio calls in a timely manner
- Proactive in reporting any questions, concerns, or supplies needed to the supervisor
- Must be able to complete repetitive tasks while maintaining quality
- Must be self-directed and able to work with limited supervision at times
- Adheres to Zoo policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of collection animals, guests, and other staff members
- Performs a variety of on-grounds cleanliness and upkeep duties
- Ability to perform skilled landscape, lawn and general park maintenance
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to work outside year-round in inclement weather conditions such as extreme high/low temperatures, snow and rain conditions. Must be able to work on his or her feet for extended periods of time and have the ability to bend, stoop, and extend oneself, etc., as required for performing assigned tasks. Must be able to work off of ladders, scaffolding, and lifts. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- One to Three Months relevant work experience
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
- Ability to partner across teams and with all levels of staff
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
