About Us
We are looking for an HR Generalist to support our growing team. This role is ideal for an HR professional with experience in California labor laws, who can handle daily HR functions including recruiting, payroll assistance, compliance, and employee relations.
Key Responsibilities1. HR Compliance & California Labor Law
- Ensure compliance with California wage & hour laws, including meal/rest breaks, overtime, and sick leave.
- Maintain proper employee classifications (W-2 vs. 1099) and AB 5 compliance.
- Support compliance with workplace safety (Cal/OSHA), harassment prevention (FEHA), and required training.
- Assist in maintaining and updating HR policies, employee handbooks, and labor law postings.
2. Recruiting, Hiring & Onboarding
- Manage job postings, screening, interviews, and new hire paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with "Ban the Box" and salary history ban laws.
- Oversee background checks, I-9 verification, and E-Verify.
- Facilitate new hire onboarding and training to ensure smooth transitions.
3. Payroll & Benefits Support
- Assist with timekeeping, payroll processing, and wage dispute resolution.
- Ensure compliance with final paycheck requirements, sick pay, and overtime laws.
- Help employees with benefits enrollment, workers' compensation claims, and leave policies (FMLA, CFRA, PDL).
4. Employee Relations & Culture Development
- Serve as a first point of contact for employee concerns, questions, and conflict resolution.
- Support managers with performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and termination compliance.
- Investigate complaints related to harassment, discrimination, and workplace disputes in accordance with FEHA and federal laws.
- Assist in fostering a positive workplace culture and engagement initiatives.
5. HR Administration & Project Support
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
- Track training requirements, performance reviews, and HR metrics.
- Assist in HR projects related to retention, diversity, and process improvements.
RequirementsExperience & Skills
- 1–2 years of HR experience, preferably in hospitality, or food service.
- Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices.
- Experience with recruiting, employee relations, payroll assistance, and compliance.
- Proficiency in HR software (e.g., 7 Shifts, JotForm, ATS, Excel).
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) REQUIRED for effective communication with employees.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required, but a Plus)
- HR certification (PHRca, SHRM-CP, or equivalent).
- Experience with payroll processing and leave administration.
