Summary
We are currently seeking a Design Tech to join our Transportation Structures team in Iowa. This position will work with an exceptional team of planning and design professionals focused on a range of structural projects for city, regional, and state clients. Projects will include the design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other projects primarily related to transportation structures using MicroStation based software such as OpenBridge Designer and OpenRoads Designer. The employee will have direct involvement with coordinating between multiple engineering and CADD disciplines to produce construction documents. Responsibilities may include creating 3D models, drafting plan details, generating quantities, and developing rebar details. The employee will need to have the capacity to work on multiple projects in a week with the ability to manage workload to meet specified deadlines with the support of the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and drafting of engineering plans including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other structural details.
- Completing detailed drawings from rough sketches and/or verbal instructions or notes with limited direction from other staff as skill set advances
- Revising drawings as directed from engineering team
- Completing limited quantity calculations used in the completion of engineering plans.
- Participates, as needed, in design meetings with engineering and client staff to fully understand expected project outcomes.
- May accompany engineers or field technicians as needed in order to better understand field conditions, evaluate existing structures, or coordinate details during construction.
- Works under the guidance of engineers to complete assigned work within budgeted timeframes.
- Works with client and/or company developed CADD standards to meet the expectations of our clients.
- Reviews own work and the work of other CADD Technicians for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting to Project Manager or engineering staff for review.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Preferred: 3 years experience with transportation structures design and drafting.
- General CADD experience mandatory; Microstation and OpenBridge Designer or OpenRoads Designer is preferred.
- Experience with 3D structural modeling is a plus.
