Summary
Responsible for field survey of outside plant aerial and underground network facilities and associate infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Under the direction of the Project Manager or Sr. Outside Plant Specialist, reviews project specifications and conducts necessary work required for field data collection, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.
• Must be able to collect field data, as well as review field data, for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare manual redline drawings when required.
• Understanding of local, county, state permit requirements (e.g., Traffic Control, encroachment, Right of Way, easement, etc.) when applicable.
• Perform utility pole field route feasibility investigations, utility pole field data collection, data entry, pole loading analysis. Able to identify service providers and cable types (e.g., CATV, COAX cable, Fiber cable, copper cable)
• Record proper data collection from field investigations for the preparation of plans or work order drawings.
• Understanding of local, county, state permit requirements (e.g., Traffic Control, encroachment, Right of Way, easement, etc.) when applicable.
• Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience:
• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-Year College or technical school; Prior Telecommunications or utility experience a plus or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) for extended periods of time and stand for 8 to 12 hours per day. Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time. This work requires standing on uneven terrain. Employees must also be able to and lift and move a minimum of 30 lbs., sit, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands or arms. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment as required. The employee is also required to kneel, crouch, and bend and to operate the full range of equipment that is typically required of this job class without special aides. Read handwritten, typed or machine generated text, graphical and statistical material without aides other than eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. Absorb data, learn and apply procedures required to perform the full range of tasks required by typical duties of the class.
Exposure to extreme heat and humidity working outdoors; temperature swings from indoor air-conditioning to outdoors, extreme noise and dust from construction equipment and hand tools at sites; mechanical and radiation hazards at industrial and construction sites; electrical hazards of electrical wiring; explosive hazards; fumes and odors of gases and exhaust; dust of environment; toxic chemicals and waste.
