Bluff View Art District - River Gallery
Title: Art Gallery Sales Associate (part time to full time, weekends as needed)
SUMMARY
The Art Gallery Sales Associate assists customers, by greeting, answering questions, and collecting payments for items purchased in the River Gallery, which is one of the Bluff View Art District’s entities, as well as a traditional Italian restaurant, an executive conference and banquet facility, a bed and breakfast-style inn, and a European-style coffee house.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Greeting and interacting with customers.
· Consulting with customers to understand their needs and preferences related to merchandise.
· Demonstrating and explaining merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for customers’ needs.
· Answering customer's questions about merchandise.
· Assisting customers with purchase decisions.
· Inventorying ad retrieving merchandise from sales floor, stock room, or other locations;
· Placing special orders.
· Collecting payment using the store point of sale system.
· Processing returns and exchanges.
· Assisting with general Gallery work and Gallery events;
· Gift wrapping and/or shipping purchases;
· Answering phone and handling other inquiries;
· Maintaining the highest standards of overall cleanliness in the Gallery;
· Keeping all works of art in the Sculpture Garden clean and preserved on a daily basis;
· Helping management and the artist with the display of art;
· Participating in training sessions;
· Willing to learn about artists, and conveying artists’ techniques and vision to customers;
· Authorizing the sale of photography passes to the general public and coordinating the schedule;
· Photographing new art and posting photos to social media sites;
· Supporting management with social media posts of Gallery events and artists’ promotions.
· Works varied day or evening shift hours, throughout the workweek, with weekend availability and some holidays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or management responsibilities are required for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
· Associate degree (or higher).
· Minimum one (1) year of sales experience.
· Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong time management.
· Motivated, self-driven, and detail oriented.
· Strong interpersonal skills, with emphasis on customer service.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).
PREFERRED:
· Associate degree (or higher) in Arts.
· Knowledge of contemporary and historical art.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
· Excellent verbal communication skills should be professional and accurate.
· Ability to interact with a very diverse and international customer base.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
· Ability to use simple math equations.
REASONING ABILITY
· Analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
· Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) license is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Prolonged periods of standing at a work counter, as well as reaching, bending, and stooping.
· Walking in the Gallery and possibly short distances to entities on the property.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

· 1.5 City blocks of building on the property, which include restaurant, coffee house, meeting venue, art gallery, bed-and-breakfast, bakery, coffee roaster and gardens.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
· Starting Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.50
· Medical, Dental, Vision for Full-Time Employee = employer pays a minimum of 50% of employee’s premium, indexed annually based on ACA affordability guidelines. (Part-Time Employee is not eligible for health benefits.)
· Flexible schedule, as determined by the Manager and in accordance with the entity’s needs.
· Observed Holidays: Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving day, Christmas day, and New Year’s Day.
