JOB OVERVIEW: The Billing Charge Entry Representative will be responsible for ensuring that all charges are correctly entered into the system and the correct party receives the claim/bill for the charge.
RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:
- Review all office and hospital charges entered into the system daily for the day prior as submitted by the providers.
- Correct diagnosis code, modifiers and procedure code issues while working directly with the provider to ensure accuracy.
- Review demographics and insurance or responsible party information for accuracy and to verify information is current.
- Complete billing of all sleep studies completed as submitted by Sleep Manager on a weekly basis.
- Complete billing of all DME rentals, purchases and supplied as charges are provided by Sleep Manager. Add rentals and purchases to tracking spreadsheet.
- Weekly do an open review of charges that may have been finalized by providers since initial review of charges.
- Monthly advise providers of any charges that are still outstanding or contained issues that will require the provider to resolve in order to complete charge entry.
- Advise department supervisor of trends or issues related to claims.
- Review rejected charges daily from the clearing house and correct related issues to the rejection.
- Work with hospital representative to obtain demographics and insurance authorizations for mutual patients.
- Assist with calls to the Billing Department to assist patients with making payments, setting up payment arrangements, resolving questions regarding balances.
- Assist with calls to insurance companies to resolve denied claims.
- Ensure compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.
- Abide by HIPAAA and other regulatory compliance guidelines.
- Participate in cross-training other staff on duties related to position.
- Engage in cross-training with other practice positions in the organization.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, Associate or Bachelor degree preferred
- Three years Medical billing experience preferred
- CPC, CCS certification from AAPC or AHIMA
- Continuing education obtained as needed to perform duties
- Excellent computer skills to include windows-based applications
- Outstanding organizational skills and accuracy in data entry
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions
