Position Summary: Primary responsibilities include completing patient assessments, insurance pre-certifications and providing ongoing patient education. In addition, this individual will provide other administrative functions related to this position including fielding calls from patients and other doctors’ offices. The Medical Assistant works under immediate supervision of the Practice Manager and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform functions of the job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with MDs and NPs to provide patient assessments.
- Process pre-certifications for patients.
- Provide patients with ongoing education on how to manage conditions. Provide training on administering injections, environmental controls and other issues as needed.
- Set up and maintain equipment.
- Measures and records vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature.
- Gives routine vaccinations.
- Taking inventory of supplies.
- Helping patients with prescription refill requests.
- Medication and imaging pre-authorizations.
- Prioritizing phone calls with questions for the physicians.
- Monitor drug inventory and reorder medications and supplies as needed.
- Perform phone triage and field calls from patients and other offices.
- Manage office biohazard waste and dispose of according to industry standards.
- Provide back-up coverage for other staff for lunch and other absences. Provide additional assistance as needed.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with computer system, printers, phone system, photocopier, fax machine, 10-Key calculator and shredder.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, practices and procedures
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Associate’s degree preferred
- State recognized CMA certification
- 1 year experience as a CMA
- Ongoing training (CEUs) to maintain CMA status
- Basic computer skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Customer service oriented
