We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join our client's team. This role involves providing expert guidance on a range of employee relations and labor issues, supporting departmental leaders, managing HR processes, and collaborating with legal counsel and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee & Labor Relations:
- Provide advice and support to department leaders on employment matters, including conflict resolution and corrective actions.
- Guide departments through employment processes such as FMLA, layoffs, and work rules.
- Collaborate with supervisors, faculty, and HR representatives to ensure adherence to HR procedures.
- Assist with large-scale department reorganizations and transitions.
- Support the grievance process and union-related matters in collaboration with Labor Relations.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints, ensuring compliance with policies.
- Facilitate meetings related to employee grievances, including Skelly meetings.
- Negotiate separation agreements and assist with employee transitions.
- Develop action plans for reorganizations and identify common employee relations issues across departments.
- Provide guidance on policy and contract interpretation, ensuring consistent application across the organization.
- Assist in developing and updating HR-related policies and protocols.
- Collaborate with risk management and counsel regarding employee matters, including litigation.
- Administer labor policies and contracts across the organization, ensuring compliance.
- Assist in union negotiations and provide advocacy at grievance and arbitration hearings.
- Advise leaders on the outcomes and risks associated with employee cases.
- Draft correspondence and assist with investigations related to grievances and employee complaints.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in employee relations, with a strong understanding of public sector laws.
- 3 years of experience in union environments.
- Expertise in drafting documents, such as investigative reports and settlement agreements.
- Strong presentation skills, with experience conducting trainings and grievance meetings.
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws.
- Experience conducting workplace and employee relations investigations.
- Ability to analyze proposals for contract negotiations and settlements.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working across multiple departments and with legal teams.
