Job Description
The Office of General Counsel is recruiting for one (1) Agency Attorney Interne to function as Attorney Interne within the Litigation and Program Counseling Unit of the Office of Legal Affairs who will:
- Provide legal counsel to the Family Independence Administration, the Medical Assistance Program, the HIV/AIDS Services Administration, the Home Care Services Program, the Employment and Support Services Administration, Customized Assistance Services, the Office of Client Advocacy (including the Office of Refugee and Immigrant Affairs, the Office of Disability Affairs, and the Office of LGBQTI Affairs), the Office of Domestic Violence and Emergency Intervention Services, Fair Fares NYC, and other DSS/HRA program areas.
- Draft legal opinions in response to requests for legal guidance, interpret laws and regulations, and analyze the impact of proposed amendments to federal, state and local laws and regulations. Draft litigation documents, such as affidavits, motion papers, memoranda of law and answers to pleadings.
- Represent the Agency in Supreme and Civil Courts and in certain administrative hearings. Court matters include Article 78 proceedings, small claims and other civil actions and responses to subpoenas.
- Provide litigation support to the NYC Law Department in the Agency’s defense of federal class actions, and other major litigation and appeals.
- Perform other related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
