Position Summary
The position of Yard Team Member is responsible for organizing and maintaining the lumber yard and ensuring efficient operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Vehicle Loading
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Help load customer vehicles safely and efficiently, verifying load accuracy and ensuring proper handling of materials.
- Answer basic product or yard-related questions and direct customers to appropriate team members as needed.
- Represent Coshocton Lumber with a positive attitude and a helpful approach to customer support.
Inventory and Stock Management
- Ensure that all products in the yard are organized and properly stored, making it easy to retrieve items quickly and efficiently.
- Perform regular inventory checks, reporting discrepancies or low-stock items to the Yard Foreman.
- Assist with restocking and maintaining the organization of lumber and building materials in the yard.
Forklift and Equipment Operation
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment to move heavy products and prepare orders.
- Load and unload materials from delivery trucks, ensuring the safe handling of large and heavy items.
- Maintain equipment in good working condition and report any maintenance needs.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures when handling products and operating equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized yard environment, ensuring that all safety hazards are promptly addressed.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other team members to ensure orders are pulled and prepared efficiently.
- Collaborate with sales and inventory teams to resolve any order issues and improve order fulfillment processes.
Housekeeping and Yard Maintenance
- Assist in keeping the yard organized, tidy, and safe by cleaning up debris, maintaining storage areas, and ensuring products are stored properly.
Qualifications
Experience
- Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or construction-related environment is preferred.
- Experience with forklifts and material handling equipment is highly desirable.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow order specifications accurately.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 80 pounds or more) and handle physical tasks.
- Basic knowledge of lumber and building materials is a plus.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other yard equipment safely (certification may be required).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds regularly and heavier items occasionally.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in various weather conditions.
Availability Requirements
- Must be available to work 20-25 hours a week including Saturdays.
- Store Hours: Monday–Friday 7 AM–5 PM | Saturday 7 AM–2 PM
