Type of Position:
6-month contract role to start. Possible for extension, long term likely for direct hire.
Candidate Requirements:
- This position is only open to US Citizens and Permanent Residents (Green Card holders). Candidates requiring visa sponsorship or holding work authorizations such as H-1B, F-1, or TN visas are not eligible for any positions with this company.
- Due to the nature of this role with a defense contractor supporting the federal government, candidates will be required to pass a comprehensive drug screening, which includes testing for cannabis. No exceptions will be made, including for medical cannabis prescriptions or state-level legalizations.

Compensation:
$41.38/hr to start. Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

Overview:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major defense contractor to hire a Technical Writer to create and revise complex technical documentation to support the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of company products. This role ensures documentation complies with company and government standards, utilizing state-of-the-art publishing software to develop technical content, including product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance and repair procedures, illustrated parts breakdown (IPB), and other relevant materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and update technical documentation in compliance with customer requirements, government specifications, and engineering standards.
- Research and collaborate with engineering staff to accurately translate technical data into clear, concise documentation.
- Analyze engineering drawings and technical data to develop user-friendly content for non-engineers.
- Ensure technical documentation conforms to industry best practices, including language usage principles.
- Assist in validating written procedures and evaluating illustrations/graphics for optimal use in documentation.
- Request the creation or modification of illustrations/graphics to enhance technical content.
- Provide input on formatting, style, and design of technical documentation.
- Stay current with industry trends and technical writing best practices.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety objectives and policies.
Skills, Experience, Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus 2 additional years of relevant experience. High School Diploma / GED is required at a minimum.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations to develop technical documentation.
- Proficiency in XML Authoring Tools (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen software).
- Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Access is a plus).
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Professional PDF software or similar electronic markup tools.
- Ability to translate engineering designs into clear, comprehensible language for non-engineers.
- Strong attention to detail and command of the English language.
- Experience writing technical documentation of limited scope and complexity, meeting deadlines and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Mechanical/Electrical/Operator Technical Writing, preferably in the defense industry.
- Validation/Verification experience, including on-vehicle testing, is a plus.
- Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) is a plus.
- Understanding of interactive electronic technical manual functionality, development processes, and markup languages is preferred.
- Strong customer interaction and customer service skills (some positions involve direct customer interface representing the company).
- Ability to work with a diverse, geographically distributed team.
Skills, Experience, Education Preferred:
- Experience in the defense or automotive industries.
Work Environment:
- This is a 1st (day) shift role that works a 9/80 schedule (9-hour days, every other Friday off).
- There will be occasional overtime in this role. Any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
