Job Description

Industrial HVAC Technician

Location : Columbus, OH

Contract : 6-month contract to hire

Schedule : Monday – Friday (1st Shift)

Compensation : $29-31 / hour | OT paid at 1.5x | Available Benefits

Job Responsibilities :

Service, maintain, and repair machinery or mechanical equipment associated with laboratory and office facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, plumbing, and related electric or pneumatic control systems.
Review and update all equipment records for the history of preventive / predictive maintenance and service activities to ensure an adequate maintenance schedule is in place; log all mechanical functions.
Ensure that the operation of systems and components remains in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as client-driven requirements for specific kinds of equipment.
Monitor equipment to ensure operation is within specified parameters, particularly to meet the requirements of conducting project work for clients; make necessary adjustments and repairs.
Conduct necessary tests and inspect system equipment and components to detect actual and potential mechanical problems that may affect project work, and take corrective action.
Perform repairs using hand tools associated with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems maintenance work; replace broken or defective parts; order production of replacement parts or machine shop services; reassemble machines and make adjustments.
Work may be performed indoors or outdoors.
Report on the status of assigned equipment maintenance and repair activities to the supervisor; advise on mechanical system capacity and efficiency.
Make purchases of mechanical equipment related to facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Instruct and advise equipment users on capacity and proper operation of equipment.
Respond and assist in performing emergency repairs on the facility's heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, and related electric or pneumatic control systems.
May be required to work overtime and outside of normal working hours, including holidays and weekends.
Perform self-development activities sufficient to maintain craft specialty skills and certifications required to perform assigned tasks.
Perform special assignments, as directed, requiring skills related to facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Requirements :

High school education, trade or vocational school certification, and approved apprenticeship or equivalent with 2 to 5 years of experience as a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning mechanic.

Demonstrated knowledge of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems and related pneumatic and electrical control systems applicable to work specialty.

Knowledge of tools, materials, procedures, and hazards of the trade, and ability to perform delicate repairs and adjustments.

Physical ability to perform medium difficulty work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling work materials and tools; ability to climb ladders, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to gain access to equipment components.

Ability to read meters and use tool accessories; acuity of vision for close work; depth of perception, field of vision, and color vision.

May be required to obtain certain government clearances, inoculations against certain diseases, asbestos awareness training and certification, universal refrigeration certification, licenses to operate a forklift, overhead crane, aerial lifts, and power tools, and radiation worker's training.

Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to follow through and carry out assignments.

May require using a communication device such as a pager, cellular phone, or two-way radio during and after normal business hours including weekends, and responding to emergency situations like power outages, equipment failures, and natural disasters.
