(HS)2 Summer Program Resident/Teaching Assistants

(HS)2 Summer Program at Colorado Rocky Mountain...
Carbondale, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 3/4/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/3/2025

Program Overview: Established in 2007, the High School High Scholar (HS)² program at Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) is a three-summer scholarship program with an emphasis on courses in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and college counseling. (HS)² supports first-generation and/or low-income students and prepares them to succeed in college by empowering them with STEM-based skills, a family of driven peers, and a space to see the light and power in their own voices.

During five weeks each summer, (HS)² scholars live and learn on the CRMS campus in Carbondale, Colorado. On weekdays, students attend six hours of academic classes. In the afternoons, they participate in the Active Program, which includes rock climbing, kayaking, and team sports, as well as art classes such as silversmithing, ceramics, and music. On weekends, the natural environment surrounding the campus inspires exploration. This unique combination of challenging academics and outdoor activities contributes to the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each (HS)² scholar, while the boarding experience fosters independence and responsibility.

Position Overview: (HS)² is hiring Resident/Teaching Assistants (RA/TA) to support students in nearly every facet of their five-week summer boarding experience, including overnight dormitory duty and in-class support as a Teaching Assistant.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support students on overnight dorm duty three nights and mornings per week, plus three full weekends. Bathroom facilities and common spaces are shared with students.
  • Assist teachers in the classroom five days per week, up to two hours per day, for one of the following classes: Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Writing, and College Counseling
  • Opportunity to coach team sports instead of TA
  • Support students in study hall three nights per week
  • Chaperone students during off-campus activities and drive students in a 14-passenger vehicle

Qualifications and Pay: Successful RAs have a strong academic background, a high level of stamina, and compassion for others. They must genuinely enjoy working with high school students and have an interest in mentoring first-generation, college-bound students. In addition to room and board, (HS)² RAs receive $3,000–$3,500, depending upon their assigned responsibilities.

2025 Dates: All RAs will arrive on campus Wednesday, June 18th, and depart Sunday, July 27th. All (HS)² students will arrive on campus on Monday, June 23rd, and depart on Saturday, July 26th.

Application Procedures: Before completing the application, please read through the (HS)² website https://hs2.crms.org/. Completed applications are reviewed and candidates are chosen on a rolling basis until staffing is complete, although preference is given to applications received before March 7, 2025.

Interviews and Hiring: After your application has been received, you will be contacted via email to inform you of your applicant status, and if appropriate, to set up an interview likely over Zoom or phone. When deciding to accept an offer of a position, applicants should remember that, although the (HS)² summer session is only five weeks, it is an intense, rigorous, and challenging program for both students and faculty.

If you have any questions, please contact Annie Oppenheim, Program Director, at aoppenheim@crms.org.
