Job Summary
The Activity Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in personal care facilities. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a diverse range of recreational activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating events, ensuring all necessary materials and resources are available.
- Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, games, music sessions, and exercise programs to foster social engagement.
- Provide one-on-one support to residents who may require additional assistance or encouragement to participate in activities.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other caregivers to ensure that activities align with residents' care plans and health needs.
- Document participation levels and feedback from residents to continually improve programming.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants by adhering to health and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
- Experience in caregiving or social work within a nursing home or long-term care setting is preferred.
- Strong skills in schedule management and event planning to effectively organize activities.
- Knowledge of recreational therapy practices and techniques that enhance resident engagement.
- Familiarity with dementia care principles to provide appropriate support for residents with cognitive impairments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members while demonstrating empathy and compassion.
- A background in home community care or aging issues counseling is a plus.
