HSM has an opportunity for a CAD/Nesting Tech to work in the Manufacturing Systems department located at the New Castle, IN facility. HSM fabricates foam, fiber, metal, and wood products through CNC machining at several manufacturing locations. The CAD/Nesting Tech will support daily manufacturing production by developing programs that run on CNC machines. This position will work closely with diverse operations and engineering teams to promote quality manufacturing while maximizing material utilization.
Job Summary:
The CAD Operator is responsible for nesting orders for production using WinCAP nesting software, creating and maintaining block sheets using AutoCAD, and supporting production by preparing accurate technical drawings. This role also assists in building customer samples for new products, scheduling production, and ensuring efficient workflow. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD skills, attention to detail, and experience in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Use WinCAP nesting software to optimize material usage and minimize waste for production orders.
Create and update block sheets in AutoCAD to provide precise cutting instructions for production.
Print and distribute block sheets and other necessary production documentation.
Assist in building customer samples for new products, ensuring they meet specifications and quality standards.
Work closely with the production team to ensure accurate execution of designs and provide technical support when needed.
Schedule production orders to ensure timely completion and efficient workflow.
Maintain accurate and organized CAD files, block sheets, and production records.
Collaborate with engineers, plant management, and production staff to improve processes and optimize material usage.
Identify and troubleshoot design or nesting issues, providing solutions to maintain efficiency and quality.
Ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience:
2 years of experience as a CAD Operator, Drafter, or similar role in a manufacturing setting.
Experience with foam cutting, upholstery, or related materials.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and process improvement.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise and material handling.
Occasional lifting, bending, and standing may be required.
Ability to work under deadlines and adapt to changing production needs.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Proficiency in AutoCAD for technical drawings and block sheet creation.
Experience with WinCAP or similar nesting software for production planning.
Knowledge of foam fabrication, furniture components, or related manufacturing industries.
Strong organizational and time management skills for scheduling and workflow coordination.
