Position Summary:
Reporting to the Business Development Manager, our Business Development Professionals are responsible for building business in specified areas of our Distribution Center’s sales territory, through the process of picking up individual and/or chain convenience store retail prospects. Our Business Development Professionals are provided with task lists, prospect lists, or targeted locations that focus on particular areas that sales growth is needed for efficiency and presence for our Distribution Center.
Duties & Requirements include:
SALES GROWTH
- Accountable for adding new independent single/multiple convenience store accounts
- Developing targeting routes or areas (provided by the Sales Manager) – Ex. “We need 20 new accounts in X City, here is a listing of all the prospects in the area – please report progress and follow up action items”
- Building connections and relationships within the industry and convenience store owners and operators
- Follow through with newly added accounts that are set up by your business development (3 weeks of follow up help on placing orders, resetting and retagging the account, overseeing the transition from the previous supplier to H.T. Hackney) – Following up with all new accounts 90 days after initial service start date to clear up and concerns or questions
TIME MANAGEMENT AND INITIATIVE
- Follow and update designated territory plan to provide your leaders and team members with information that is vital to building business in the territory
- Analytical ability which allows to determine territory strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
- Active listener, quick thinker, and proactive problem solver for H.T. Hackney as well as store owners
- Maintain a prospect call database (google sheets, spreadsheets, or other programs to share)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including presentation skills for prospective accounts)
- Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to pass Pre-Employment testing, drug test, and physical
- Prolonged periods of driving and standing
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time on occasion
Education and experience:
- Two-year Associate Degree, or Four-year Bachelor Degree *preferred*, Or relevant work experience
- Sales experience (1-5 years)
- Sales experience required, with experience in foodservice distribution, retail, or the convenience store channel *preferred*
