Essential Functions

This position leads to a position as a licensed Journeyman Lineman, trained and qualified to work at Medium Voltage in electrical transmission and distribution systems. There are a number of skills that will be necessary to master during the approximately 4 year training period.

Communication: As a front line representative First Responder of the HTUA and the Hualapai Tribe, this position requires learning clear and respectful interaction with members of the community. Clear communication is also a necessary ingredient in maintaining effective and safe interactions with other team members, especially under stressful emergency conditions.  There will also be a need for clear and accurate written communications in logging time, preparing purchasing documents, and maintaining inventory records.

Physical: Working at elevated heights is a required skill in this trade, whether from bucket trucks or scaling poles and towers using hooks and fall restraints. As part of the training process, the position provides training and experience operating a variety of heavy equipment including bucket trucks, cranes, excavation equipment and wire-pulling machines, and a number of other power tools. Training and experience is also provided for the many specialized tools of the trade, such as powered crimp tools, hotline sticks, hotline clamps, and many more. This position is almost exclusively an outdoor job, and the apprentice will be exposed to severe weather conditions.

Knowledge: By the end of this training period, an apprentice will have learned to read and interpret construction plans and schematics, to analyze electrical recordings and charts, troubleshoot detected problems, and make informed recommendations for correcting problems.

Generally: Training for the successful applicant(s) will be provided by HTUA, but may not be provided onsite.  Since Apprentices must be supervised by qualified Journeyman Linemen, HTUA may require relocation to a different locale for training purposes.
