JOB TITLE: Engine Boss
DEPARTMENT: Forestry & Wildland Fire Management program
CLASS: Full Time/Non-Exempt (1 Vacancy)
SALARY: $45,000.00 - $58,000.00
OPENING DATE: January 30, 2025
CLOSING DATE: February 05, 2025
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Fire Management Officer or assigned supervisor the Engine Boss is responsible to support the mission of the Hualapai Forestry and Wildland Fire Management (WFM) programs. Your primary duty is to protect life, property, and natural resources of the Hualapai Tribe.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the goals of the Fire Management Officer
- Improves self-development through innovation and National Wildland Coordinating Group training
- Develops subordinates
- Maintains a safe work environment
- Other assigned duties to meet the mission of the Forestry and Wildland Fire Management program
- Comply with Tribal, State, and Federal policy
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
- National Wildland Fire Coordinating Incident Management Qualifications (Currency required)
o Primary; Single Resource – Engine Boss
o Secondary; Incident Commander Type 5
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of BIA Model 52 program and the Interagency Standards for Fire and Aviation Operations.
- Must perform suppression tactics: burn out, parallel attack, and aviation coordination.
- Ability to use handheld and mobile radio units and program.
- Must possess high level of verbal and written communication skills.
Other:
- Must pass a physical exam through Acuity and a Work Capacity Test for Red Card qualifications.
- Must be able to work Holidays and weekends.
- Must be able to attend training and travel.
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must possess a current/valid driver’s license, eligible for tribal insurance and Government license.
- Must be able to pass or meet tribal insurance policy and procedures.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be a team player to integrate with other programs within the department.
PREFERREDD QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Wildland Coordinating Group qualifications: Incident Commander Type 4/3, Single Resource: Crew Boss, Firing Boss, and Prescribed Burn Boss 2 or 3.
