SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
Will be responsible for the operation of the trash truck/roll off and operating a variety of solid waste vehicles to collect and transport solid waste and recycling materials. Will be responsible for examination, maintenance and service of solid waste vehicles on a regular basis. You will be required to work outside and will be exposed to insects, animals and potential occupational risks such as burns, cuts and exposure to hazardous fluids. You will be working mostly alone in occasionally isolated areas. The driver will be available to other departments to act as backup driver to help meet transportation needs. This position requires the driver to have a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operating the Tribe’s trash truck/roll off collecting solid waste and discarded recycling materials as scheduled.
- Operates various types of solid waste collection vehicles, operates mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse and recyclable materials.
- Drives to designated area to deliver refuse and recyclable materials.
- Maintains safe and efficient operation of solid waste collection and transport equipment and vehicles.
- Perform pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily logs for equipment operated.
- Demonstrate safe work methods and safety practices.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Supervisors, co-workers, and the Public.
- Maintain accurate written work records and reports.
- When called upon to transport people, safely transport tribal employees to designated work site(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of traffic laws involving equipment operations; safe operations of and safety precautions necessary in operation of equipment, including various types of solid waste collection vehicles.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, standard safety practices, hazardous materials and OSHA standards.
- Knowledge in principles of operation and servicing of trucks and related solid waste vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and understand orally and in writing to carry out instructions.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to solid waste vehicles and equipment.
Other:
- Strong communication skills;
- Must be willing to work beyond regular hours as necessary (Flexibility is key).
- Must be able to follow directions, read and understand manuals and be willing to work with others.
- Submit to and pass annual CDL Physical Examination and TB Test.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within 3 months and also being eligible for tribe’s insurance;
- Submit to and pass required Local, State, and Federal Background Checks;
- Must submit/pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and will be subject to routine random ADOT testing.
