Description:
The Hub City Spartanburgers are looking for a “ball of energy”, the “life of the party” and the “conductor of FUN” to help bring the most entertaining experience to Fifth Third Park for all 66 Spartanburgers home games, as well as other events.
The team is looking to create a dynamic duo of FUN that feed off of each other’s personalities, energy and carry the excitement throughout game play and into the in-between innings entertainment. The On-Field Hosts & PA Announcers will take center stage each game and event to bring Spartanburgers fans and Fifth Third Park patrons through an unforgettable journey including baseball, entertainment and some good ole fashioned FUN!
The On-Field Hosts & PA Announcers will work directly with the General Manager, Sr. Manager of Marketing and the Manager of Promotions & Game Programming. This is a part-time position with the majority of hours being dedicated during the season (April-Sept), specifically to game days, and some hours throughout the off-season (Oct-March).
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
· Treating each game and promotion as if it were the first time ever happening
· Maintaining professional on the mic while being fun/silly
· Must be able to keep the same level of excitement from pre-game to finish
· Assisting Front Office and Promotions Staff with the constant evolution and innovation of the entertainment during ballgames
· Being a great teammate with other hosts, music director, front office staff, interns and any other individual representing the team
· Looking for ways to create “wow” moments for fans
· Game day duties/expectations:
Meet with staff to go over game scripts, including but not limited to:
- pre-game scripts
- in game reads
- night specific reads
- post-game
- player line-ups
- promotion assignments
- learn names/pronunciations of anthem singers, special guests, first pitches, etc.
- organizing scripts, checking equipment (scorebook, charged walkies/mics), organizing announcing area
- pre-game promos / games
- in game promos
- promotion assignments
- learn names/pronunciations of anthem singers, special guests, first pitches, etc.
Pre-Game PA/On-Field duties, including but not limited to:
- Keeping on schedule! adjusting faster/slower pace as needed
- matching reads with video board graphics
- introducing guests, team members, throwing to on-field announcers, anthem singers
- connecting with manager/umpires to introduce players
- Working with other host to keep action/excitement going before start of game
In-Game PA duties, including but not limited to:
- player at-bat introductions
- in-game sponsored reads
- update on score
- ability to work in on-the-fly announcements (missing child, found wallet, car on fire, etc)
- quickly learning of / announcing player substitutions
- throwing action to on-filed host for in-between inning promotions / videos
- keeping in-between inning promotions on schedule
- sharing time with ballpark music director/musician
- balancing time for announcements with moments of PA silence
- game wrap-up, thanks you's, upcoming games/events
- helping lead post-game activities
In-Game Between Inning Promotion duties, including but not limited to:
- listening to Table PA announcement to start
- finding promotion contestants
- explaining rules/objectives of promotion with contestants
- clearly communicate who, what, and where of promo
- balancing promo play-by-play with moments of PA silence
- convey promo play-by-lay of events without overshadowing game
- ability to work in on-the-fly announcements (contestant hurt, failed prop, etc)
- keeping in-between inning promotions on time
- sharing time with ballpark music director/musician
- maintaining enthusiasm throughout promotion
- helping lead post-game activities
Qualifications:
· Experience performing in front of crowds a must
· Experience of addressing crowds via a microphone a must
· Previous experience as an on-field host for a sports organization preferred
· Knowledgeable of the game of baseball and it’s rules a must
· Ability to work with others in a fast-paced and stressful environment a must
· Ability to improv, go off script and, at times, embarrass yourself preferred
· Must be able to work all or most games during the Hub City Spartanburgers season
· Must be able to be on your field and mobile for multiple hours at a time
