THE OPPORTUNITY:
Hudson County Community College (HCCC) seeks an Associate Director for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to join its award-winning and nationally recognized institution. Summary of Duties
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as a point of contact to Humanities and Social Science students to support their academic and non-academic growth and development.
- Reviews student issues and concerns and recommends course of action for specific student/course issues
and refers to appropriate Program or Course Coordinator or College department for prompt problem resolution.
- Coordinate/collaborate with the Office of Human Resources and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation to provide workshops focused on specialized topics and disciplines, including pedagogy and critical thinking.
- Assist Program, Course and Assessment Coordinators, and the Director of ESL/AFE in executing assessment procedures.
- Collaborate with Career Services in the creation, scheduling, and delivery of career-related topics.
- Collaborate and participate with Student Services for recruiting and registration events.
- Responsible for the accurate catalog of Academic Programs, Certificates, and Syllabi. Lase with the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Directs and performs other program-specific activities, as required. Actively participates and/or manages specific projects, as required. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by college and departmental needs.
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Communications, faculty, and staff to maintain and update the School of Humanities and Social Sciences presence on the Webpage and Social Media and related promotional materials.
Qualifications
- BA in either a Humanities or Social Science discipline with 5 years of related experience in Higher Education.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and academic disciplines.
- Knowledge and understanding of principles, methods, and techniques for supporting nontraditional students.
- Experience with higher education software and the use of student information systems.
- Classroom teaching experience in an urban setting is preferred.
- Experience in an open-access community college setting preferred.
- Administrative experience in a higher education setting is preferred.

The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.
HCCC offers 9 fully online degree programs and expects this number to grow in the coming year. In addition to its degree programs and courses, HCCC offers a wide array of non-credit classes and programs designed to develop professional skills, provide occupational training, teach languages and culinary skills, and enrich personal and cultural knowledge.

The College boasts several signature programs, including a nationally recognized Culinary Arts Institute and Nursing Program. The College’s Culinary Arts Institute is one of only three programs in the New York Metropolitan region to hold accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation. The Culinary Arts Institute features state-of-the-art facilities and a hands-on program that prepares students for a range of careers in the hospitality industry. The College also has a Bloomberg Finance Lab, which provides students with real world experience to prepare them for employment in banks, corporations, and government agencies.
A leader in workforce development, HCCC hosted The Aspen Institute’s Workforce Leadership Academy, which was the first to be offered in partnership with a community college. The Hudson County Workforce Leadership Academy was funded through a combination of public and private donors that included JPMorgan Chase, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the County of Hudson, the LeFrak Family, and Mack-Cali.
