THE OPPORTUNITY:
Hudson County Community College (HCCC) seeks an Associate Director of Advisement for the North Hudson Campus for the Office of Advisement to join its award-winning and nationally recognized institution. Position Summary
Hudson County Community College is seeking an Associate Director for its Office of Advisement. This role will provide leadership for advisement services at the North Hudson Campus, ensuring a seamless student experience and effective operational management. The Associate Director will supervise academic counselors and other advisement staff at North Hudson while integrating college-wide retention initiatives and supporting strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Advisement Leadership of the North Hudson Campus
- Serve as the main point of contact for Advisement at the North Hudson Campus.
- Advocate for the needs of staff and students as they relate to Advisement services at North Hudson.
- Utilize data and student success technology to identify opportunities to more effectively reach and support students served by the North Hudson Campus
- Proactively identify and address barriers to student success and retention on the North Hudson Campus, collaborating with office leadership and relevant stakeholders to implement targeted interventions and support strategies
- Support strategic planning and initiatives that align advisement services with institutional retention and student success goals, including facilitating connections and fostering collaboration to support the Hudson Scholars Program at the North Hudson Campus.
- Act as a liaison between the North Hudson Campus and other academic and administrative units to ensure continuity of services.
Retention Initiatives and Student Support (College-Wide)
- Liaise with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Approval Committee to support student success efforts.
- Collaborate with campus-wide EAB Navigate 360 initiatives to identify opportunities to support proactive advising, early alerts, and intervention strategies that enhance student engagement and retention.
- Develop and implement strategies for student retention and persistence across both campuses.
- Oversee student support initiatives aimed at improving academic progress and engagement.
- Manage and develop programming utilizing MA-level interns within the office of Advisement to enhance the student support offerings at the College.
- Serve as a point of contact, in collaboration with Hudson Scholars program leadership, for Career and Transfer collaborations
Office Leadership & Supervision
- Provide administrative supervision to academic counselors and/or other staff (e.g., part-time advisors, student workers, and student services assistants) at North Hudson Campus.
- Oversee operational efficiency and ensure that advisement practices are consistent, equitable, and supportive of student needs.
- Manage staff scheduling across campuses, in collaboration with office leaders in Advisement, including but not limited to daily work schedules and staff assignments of college-wide events, ensuring adequate coverage and participation from the Advisement team.
- Provide oversight to office workgroup(s) and track progress towards established goals.
- Provide regular updates to the Associate Dean of Advisement regarding key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Represent the Office of Advisement internally and externally as needed.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Reporting and Data Analysis
- Monitor and analyze advisement activities through data-driven reports to assess performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Work with the Senior Assistant Director (Data and Assessment) to collect and analyze student feedback on advisement services for continuous improvement.
Student Support and Engagement
- Manage the resolution of student complaints and escalations, ensuring prompt and effective responses in alignment with college policies.
- Provide oversight for Advisement-led initiatives at the North Hudson Campus, including Registration Labs and the Welcome Home initiative, to enhance student engagement and support.
- Participate in and support professional development initiatives, including collaborating with the Senior Assistant Director of Advising Training and Development on office-wide trainings.
- While not maintaining a formalized caseload, provide individual student support as needed.
- Collaborate with One Stop services at the North Hudson Campus to ensure seamless student support and redevelopment of the One Stop Area.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of four years in academic advisement or student services, with at least two years in a supervisory or leadership role of professional staff.
- Technology Skills: Proficiency in higher education software, including Microsoft Office suite, Airtable, EAB Navigate, and Ellucian Colleague.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Ability to identify trends, use data to inform decision-making, and creatively solve challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing multi-campus advisement operations.
- Bilingual abilities in Spanish and/or Arabic.
