Cleans and regularly maintains all boilers and other major equipment. Participates in necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas. If given approval by Director of Facilities. Report broken windows or provides temporary covering as needed. Assists, as necessary, other staff or contracted personnel. Assists in snow removal and insures that walkways are sanded. Participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building. Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the buildings. Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary. Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. Performs such yard keeping chores as rubbish removal, grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Director of Facilities or Principal. Reports immediately to the Director of Facilities any damage to school property. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights (except those left on for safety reasons) are turned off. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand, and requisition such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time so as not to hinder scheduled activities. Performs other tasks within the scope of job assignment as directed by the Director of Facilities and Head Custodian. Qualifications : Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician. Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports High School Diploma / GED required Must be able to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing with Administration, Teaching Staff, and the General Public Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Hudson School Committee or Director of Buildings and Grounds may find appropriate and acceptable. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building.
