Position Overview:The Hudson Highlands Nature Center seeks an experienced Seasonal Camp Director to lead and manage the Nature Camp at Mountain Lake Park in Warwick, NY. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills to oversee camp operations, ensure compliance with Orange County Department of Health (DOH) regulations, and deliver a safe, enriching summer experience for campers.
Key Responsibilities:
Camp Operations:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily camp activities, ensuring a fun, safe, and engaging program for campers ages 3–9.
- Manage camper check-in and check-out procedures and maintain accurate records of attendance and health information.
- Create and implement weekly schedules that balance education, recreation, and nature-based learning.
Health Department Administration:
- Oversee all New York State DOH compliance requirements, including maintaining up-to-date records and reports (e.g., permits, camper health records, incident logs).
- Coordinate and prepare for DOH site inspections, ensuring all health, safety, and sanitation standards are met.
- Conduct routine site inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols and rectify any issues promptly.
- Develop, implement, and oversee emergency and safety plans, including first aid procedures and staff drills.
Staff Leadership and Training:
- Train, and supervise camp counselors, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide a high-quality camper experience.
- Lead pre-camp training sessions focusing on safety protocols, child supervision, activity facilitation, and emergency procedures.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to staff, conducting regular check-ins and evaluations to maintain program quality.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain detailed records, including camper registrations, attendance logs, incident reports, and program evaluations.
- Manage the camp’s budget, including purchasing supplies and tracking expenditures.
- Communicate professionally and promptly with parents, addressing questions, concerns, or emergencies as they arise.
- Prepare and submit end-of-season reports summarizing program outcomes, camper feedback, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications:
- Experience supervising a summer camp or summer programs.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in managing compliance documents and administrative tasks.
- Strong leadership skills with experience training and supervising staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and database systems for record-keeping.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
Schedule and Compensation:
- Full-time, seasonal position from mid-June to late August, with additional hours for pre-camp planning and training.
