About the Organization:
Founded in 1979, HRMM was founded to preserve and interpret the rich maritime history of the Hudson River including historic vessels, industries, natural sciences, and communities. Over the years HRMM has grown into a vibrant waterfront education center that offers people of all ages many ways to learn about the Hudson River and its history. With an annual budget of $1.4M, HRMM programs include exhibits, school programs, sailing and rowing programs, lectures, festivals, and conferences. HRMM also operates our floating classroom, the 100% solar-powered vessel Solaris, and the Wooden Boat School with classes in basic woodworking as well as traditional crafts.
Job Description:
HRMM is seeking to fill the key position of Development Manager in the organization. The position requires a candidate with significant experience in a development role, especially donor-based CRM management and the oversight of key fundraising events. This position requires a high-energy, smart, detail-oriented, hard- working leader who can contribute to and support the strategic vision of the organization and build deep and lasting relationships with donors and prospects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Work with the Executive Director and key members of staff and Board to develop strategy and plan for annual fundraising.
· Develop and oversee donor lists, donor research, and donor tracking using HRMM’s CRM database Neon One
· Lead the planning and execution of key fundraising, cultivation, and donor recognition events such as annual gala, membership events, and other related activities.
· Develop, promote, and maintain list of Ways to Give that includes all avenues of support.
· Develop, execute, and manage cultivation, solicitation, and acknowledgment plans and process for all donors, insuring consistent and effective communication using CRM.
· Provide insightful metrics reports regarding HRMM’s donor base, as well as annual reports at year-end.
· Work with Executive Director and key program and marketing staff to insure consistent and effective marketing and communication that supports development efforts.
· Responsible for developing and maintaining fundraising collateral and materials including appeals, plea letters, invitations, and promotional materials.
· Work with staff and Board to develop and enhance competencies to increase fundraising participation across the organization.
· Work with the Executive Director and Board to research and cultivate prospects and schedule meetings with prospective donors.
· Coordinate efforts with other Development staff including Grant and Campaign staff, to assist, when needed.
· Participate in administrative requirements such as weekly staff meetings, Board committee meetings, performance reviews, and other required duties.
Professional / Personal Qualifications:
· Demonstrated passion for development work in general, and for HRMM’s mission.
· Bachelor’s degree preferred with commensurate experience recognized and highly valued.
· 5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit fundraising
· Experience and skill with basic computer programs including cloud-based and CRM database experience.
· Previous capital campaign experience is considered a significant advantage.

Schedule, Salary, and Benefits
· Full-Time, on-site role. Flexible schedule with occasional hybrid work. M-F.
· Additional evening and weekend hours for special events, programs, meetings are occasionally required.
· Occasional travel may be required for training or presentations.
· Salary: $65,000- $75,000 commensurate with experience
· Vacation, paid sick leave and paid personal leave.
