Kennel Assistant
Hudson Valley Dog Farm, Taghkanic, NY
We are a small boarding and training facility located in Columbia County, New York. Our canine clients include traditional boarders, dogs and puppies of all ages working on manners training, adult dogs working on reactivity issues, sport dog prospects working on foundation training and everything in between.
The Kennel Assistant will help provide daily exercise and enrichment for boarding and training dogs, as well as anything required to provide an excellent experience for the dogs in our care, including cleaning and food preparation.
We are a small group of humans striving to provide excellent care and training services for dogs. The ability to work respectfully and pleasantly with fellow humans is a must.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Exercising dogs, including running small playgroups;
2. Cleaning kennels and other parts of the facility;
3. Preparing meals for dogs;
4. Helping to provide enrichment for dogs;
5. Collaborating with other team members to provide the best possible experience for the dogs in our care; and
6. Contributing to a work environment that fosters pride in our work, commitment to the animals in our care, and a positive and supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of one year of paid experience working with dogs. Kennel, shelter or similar environmental experience preferred, but will consider pet sitting and other similar experience.
2. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively as a team member and work under the leadership of business owners. Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive criticism.
3. Ability to work partial weekends and holidays.
4. Comfortable being around many different types and sizes of dogs exhibiting a variety of behaviors.
5. Must be flexible, work well under pressure, and possess a positive attitude.
6. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to be able to attend work regularly as scheduled.
7. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
8. Must be able to handle the physical rigors or working with all sizes of dogs in a blend of indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, snow.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
