Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory services to Hudson Valley Hospice patients under orders from the referring physician, so that the quality of the patients’ life may be enhanced. Hospice respiratory therapists provide a range of solutions for your patients with advanced lung disease and advanced cardiac disease in the comfort of their own home, whether home is a traditional residence, assisted living facility, nursing home, or other preferred care setting. As part of the interdisciplinary hospice team, respiratory therapists make visits as needed to manage symptoms, ease anxiety, provide pulmonary hygiene, and educate caregivers on appropriate care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Hospice respiratory therapists help support end-of-life cardiopulmonary patients with complex needs
- Providing routine & emergency Respiratory Therapy & Pulmonary Diagnostic procedures to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients
- Assembling, operating, and monitoring all types of Respiratory Therapy equipment (BiPAP/CPAP, Non-invasive ventilation (Trilogy), Tracheotomy care, Compassionate hospital or home ventilator discontinuation, High-flow oxygen therapy)
- Assist for neurologic diseases, ALS, etc. Cough Assist
- Reviews available information and evaluates impact on treatments.
- Performs a thorough assessment, evaluation, and documentation of patient’s level of respiratory functioning in response to therapy.
- Develops and implements an individualized treatment plan in consultation with the physician and interdisciplinary team to promote optimal respiratory function related to the patient’s potential.
- Provides respiratory services in accordance with plan of care in a safe, timely manner.
- Instructs and consults with patients and caregiver in appropriate respiratory care procedures and techniques appropriate to their age and needs.
- Consults with physicians, other health care workers and caregivers as needed regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
- Recommends appropriate interagency and intra-agency referrals.
- Provides educational programs for HVHospice staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Ability to work various shifts and/or on-call hours when required
- Can lift up to 20 pounds of supplies and equipment when necessary
- Travel to patient's home setting, wherever that may be
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Current NY State Respiratory Care Practitioner License
- N.B.R.C. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT preferred)
- Graduate of a two- or four-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program
- Minimum of one year experience in all types of adult, pediatric, and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures
- Current CPR certification
Hours: Per Diem - number of hours dependent on department needs
Pay: $60-62 per hour
FLSA: Non-Exempt
