Job Summary:
The Veteran Peer Specialist provides peer-to-peer support to veterans in Ulster County, helping them navigate challenges related to mental health, reintegration, and overall well-being. This role involves mentorship, outreach, and connecting veterans to vital resources within the community. The ideal candidate has lived experience as a veteran, regardless of discharge status, and understands the unique struggles of military service and transition to civilian life.
Key Responsibilities:
· Facilitate peer support groups, community events, and wellness activities.
· Provide one-on-one peer support and mentorship to veterans and their families.
· Conduct outreach to engage veterans, families, and community partners.
· Assist veterans in accessing mental health services, employment resources, and VA benefits.
· Collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and veteran service providers.
· Maintain accurate records and reports on program activities and veteran engagement.
Qualifications:
· Must have served in the U.S. military (any branch, any length of service, regardless of discharge status).
· Good understanding of veteran issues, mental health challenges, and reintegration struggles.
· Experience in peer support, mentoring, or case management is a plus.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
· Work as part of a Peer Specialist team and be flexible in “day to day” activities and engagements with veterans and their families.
· Be comfortable with and embrace change as it relates to daily responsibilities.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 per week
