Description
The Cardiovascular Technologist will conduct tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. The Cardiovascular Technologist may also conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary functions, lung capacity, and similar tests. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Assures patient/personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Follows all principles of sterile technique. Adhering to principles of Universal Precautions.
- Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and Center related business.
- Monitors patients’ blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to notify the physician if something appears wrong. Adjusts equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocol.
- Obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results.
- Explains testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety. Monitors the patient’s comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
- Attaches electrodes to the patient’s chests, arms, and legs, connects electrodes to leads from the electrocardiogram (EKG) machine, and operates the EKG machine to obtain a reading. Observes gauges, recorders, and video screens of data analysis system during imaging of cardiovascular system.
- Checks, tests, and maintains cardiology equipment, making minor repairs to ensure proper operation.
- Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Maintains established Center and departmental policies and procedures.
- Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
- Participates in quality assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and for the Center. Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs.
- Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes.
- Regular, physical attendance on a predictable basis is essential to the performance of this job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates degree or bachelor’s degree (preferred) in sonography or cardiovascular or vascular technology.
- Completed certificate program or certification in the field preferred.
- One-year experience and/or training in surgical setting, preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, preferred.
Salary : $30 - $48
