The Director of Development plays a critical role in the Greater Miami Area, focusing primarily on fundraising and solicitation plans to meet the organization's quarterly goals and managing key relationships with external stakeholders. This position enhances the JA experience and philanthropic engagement.
Junior Achievement of Greater Miami (JA Miami) is an award-winning nonprofit focused on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness. We work to break the cycle of poverty by teaching Miami schoolchildren how to manage money. Each year, tens of thousands of students receive free learning experiences taught by our trained volunteers—and supported by our generous donors.
A strong candidate will bring a comprehensive background in all aspects of development, including donor prospecting, CRM management, cultivation, stewardship, acknowledgment, and ongoing communication. The Director of Development will oversee the full donor lifecycle for all assigned donors, ensuring regular engagement, updates on Junior Achievement initiatives, and strategic touchpoints to foster long-term support.
Responsibilities:
Prospect, solicit, develop, nurture and manage community partnerships and advisor networks to drive fundraising efforts.Develop and collaborate with the Development team on strategies to attract board, individual, corporate, foundation, and government donors.
Determine Gift solicitation activities (sources, income, budget, expenses, cost per $ raised)
Work with the Leadership team to advance organizational goals by determining steps and timetable to accomplish fundraising goals.
Manage, update CRM database and pull reports to use data insights to identify best prospects.
Gift management, processing, acknowledgement letters.
Work with marketing to identify warm leads.
Build new relationships while maintaining existing partnerships to ensure donor retention.
Create content, case for support and proposals for targeted audiences that are clear, compelling, and brief.
Prospect, cultivate and solicit philanthropic support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Partner with the Vice President of Philanthropy and the Development Team to strategize and execute major fundraising initiatives.
Research (using wealth screening tools), identify prospects, to include in portfolio advancing systematically in the gift solicitation process.
Engage donors and prospects in JA’s programs and events by working closely with internal teams, including Development and Programming.
Conduct research to identify and qualify new prospects whose interests align with JA’s mission and initiatives.
Attend networking events and perform prospect research to grow relationships and identify new corporate supporters for key programs.
Drive fundraising efforts through programming, mission-oriented initiatives, sponsorships, and direct donations.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Philanthropy, Director of Events, and Marketing Department to identify key segmented audiences to maximize targeted fundraising initiatives and events.
Maintain detailed records of donor interactions, track progress through the donor lifecycle, and monitor event revenue and budgets.
Ensure effective stewardship of all event supporters, sponsors, and vendors through comprehensive engagement strategies.

- Proactively contribute innovative ideas and initiatives to help expand Junior Achievement's reach, donor base and fundraising goals.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, but we will also consider applicants who have an Associate's degree combined with relevant experience.Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, or external relations.
Proven success in sales, fundraising, and relationship-building with external stakeholders.
Accustomed to managing a portfolio of donors and meeting quotas, leads, and closing.
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Comfortable engaging with executive leadership and other high-level stakeholders.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team.
Strong entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to think creatively, strategically, and deliver successful outcomes.
