JOB SUMMARY:
In collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, provides direct management of the following areas within the Surgical Services Department: PreOp, IntraOp, PACU and SPD. Including but not limited to; customer/patient care, staffing, policies and standards, staff evaluations, job descriptions, budgeting, and other tasks as needed. Actively acts as a liaison between unit personnel, medical staff, and hospital administration. Continuously utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation in the management of the units. Has 24-hour accountability for designated unit(s) with minimal call requirement. Assumes and accepts the responsibility for developing, maintaining and following approved facility policies and procedures as assigned.
Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements of this job:
Education and Formal Training: Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program and current valid North Carolina license as a Registered Nurse with biannual renewal. The following certifications are required: BCLS, ACLS, PALS and CNOR. A grace period of one month will be considered for the completion of BCLS renewal and grace period of 6 months for renewal of ACLS, PALS and CNOR. If not renewed by the end of the grace period the employee will not be allowed to work or use PTO. BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience: Progressive nursing experience required, with greater than 3 years surgical services experience. Nurse leadership and preceptor experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Ability to work effectively with others, leadership ability and willingness to accept responsibility/accountability. Clinical expertise in surgical services with knowledge of current nursing trends is required.
