Summary
The Infection Preventionist Nurse is a professional nurse who plans, coordinates, and implements Infection Prevention activities. The Infection Preventionist Nurse collaborates with members of the health care team and is responsible for administering and maintaining an effective, efficient Infection Prevention program.
Education and Formal Training: Current valid RN license with BSN required and a Master’s in Public Health preferred. Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC) certification required or must achieve within 90 days of meeting criteria for certification.
Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting. Experience with nosocomial surveillance preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Computer skills, research and basic statistical abilities required in order to record, track and trend data for presentations. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and an even temperament when dealing with people. Ability to use tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Must develop knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster, and infection preventive policies.
