Role: Inventory Accountant
Location: Long Beach, CA (On-site)
Compensation: $35-40/hour, depending on experience
Duration: 4-6 months, with potential for permanent hire
We are seeking an experienced Inventory Accountant on behalf of our client, a well-established, but rapidly growing company in the retail sector. This role requires a strong background in accounting systems, inventory management, and financial reconciliation. The ideal candidate will have experience working with an established workforce and be comfortable contributing to a dynamic, evolving business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and review inventory reports, ensuring accuracy in inventory data.
- Investigate discrepancies in stock levels, perform root cause analysis, and recommend process improvements to prevent future issues.
- Validate inventory transfers, audits, and write-offs, making corrections in the system as needed.
- Conduct month-end reviews of inventory accounts, ensuring accurate reporting of sales, pricing, and margins.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts related to inventory and investigate unusual activity on financial statements.
- Prepare and submit journal entries to the general ledger.
- Perform store audit variance reviews and adjust inventory records accordingly.
- Maintain awareness of product changes, pricing structures, and promotions to ensure accurate reporting.
- Identify opportunities for improved reporting and collaborate with internal teams to develop new inventory tracking tools.
- Serve as a liaison between finance, operations, and accounting teams, providing clear communication on inventory-related processes and system updates.
- Support ad hoc accounting and reporting projects as needed to enhance business operations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in inventory management, accounting, or financial analysis.
- Strong proficiency in ERP systems (experience with PDI is a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills and a solid mathematical foundation for financial analysis.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and inventory reconciliation best practices.
- Ability to manage time-sensitive tasks in a high-volume environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a keen eye for identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams and organizational levels.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with a proactive approach to improving processes.
- Experience working in a growing company or a fast-paced environment is preferred.
