Hugs & Bugs Club in Hoboken, NJ is a Reggio inspired preschool focusing on nature play and play based learning for children 2-7 years old. We are a child-led learning center, enjoy snack time together, play outside every day regardless of weather conditions and love playing and learning together. We are a small, but growing community of curious and engaged children, teachers and families.
We are looking to hire a summer camp counselor June 16th thru August 31st. We welcome a self-starter who enjoys learning alongside children, 2 to 8 years old, and who is dedicated, energetic and creative with a passion and strong interest in Reggio inspired and child-led learning education model.
Early Childhood Education or degree and/or working towards a degree in related fields such as art, music, science, is required for a summer camp counselor position. We value kindness and empathy towards others as the most important quality and are looking for counselors who can guide children through a fun summer with awareness and compassion. The ideal candidate would be able to be highly flexible and adaptable to the role and be able to work with other teachers and specialists. This candidate would be a team player and be prepared to lead as well as follow the other teachers as needed. Flexibility in schedule and ability to improvise.
Highlights of Position
- Supports the social and emotional development of children through the use of conflict resolution, reflective listening and inquiry
- Utilizes the environment as the third teacher by creating a beautiful, intentional and stimulating indoor and outdoor classroom
- Communicates regularly with parents in order to make learning visible through daily and weekly documentation such as notes, portfolios, posting on our private app, documentation boards, etc.
- Seeks parents and family input as a way to extend projects, reflect on past work and build relationships in our Hoboken community
- Collaborates with colleagues to analyze and interpret documentation and envision/create the next steps for small group exploration
- Comfortable working in an environment where the children’s interests serve as the catalyst for learning versus a predetermined curriculum
- Appreciation for and a desire to scaffold nature-based education
Responsibilities:
– Lead, set up, and organize play and exploration areas for preschool aged children.
– Research and design Reggio Emilia and play-based experiences for children.
– Enjoy daily in town field trips.
– Document and communicate children’s progress to families which includes but is not limited to a daily private app post.
– Create safe opportunities for children to build confidence in physical movement
– Research and develop social emotional learning opportunities for children that are age-appropriate.
– Guide children to build inquiry skills: observe, document, investigate, problem solve.
– Filling in for other teachers when they are absent
– Keeping the learning environment and office space organized and clean
– Participate in group collaborations and activities
– Participate in professional development
– Find opportunities to support other teachers.

Qualifications:
