General Description:
The Child Care Lab Assistant supports high school students by providing care for their children aged six weeks to two years old who are enrolled in the school’s child care lab program. The Assistant also works with the CTE teachers in the related content area on programming for the lab.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the CTE teacher and CTE specialist to effectively operate the childcare lab
- Works with high school students and their parents to communicate program requirements; provides progress updates and addresses concerns
- Creates a stimulating, caring, safe, and enjoyable learning environment for children
- Uses various learning methods to promote child development such as stories, games, and other age-appropriate activities
- Helps develop age-appropriate socialization skills in children
- Provides basic care for children ages six weeks to two years old including feeding, grooming, and changing diapers
- Sets up and removes equipment used for children's activities, and keeps storage areas tidy and organized
- Ensures furniture, floor coverings, toys, and equipment are kept clean and properly maintained following safe and hygienic standards
- Maintains records and required documentation for each child
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from Birth to 5 required; early childhood coursework or degree preferred
- Completion of CPR & First Aid training required
- At least six months of experience working in child care, daycare, or preschool preferred
- Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
