Job Summary
The Engineering and Maintenance Manager will have responsibility for maintenance, reliability, and improvement of all equipment at the sight. They will maintain the capital budget and drive all project management. Working closely with the CI Manager, Production Manager, Quality manager, and Controller to keep projects and processes on track and direction for goals. Approval of all engineering costs required for CEP submission and development. Engineering and Maintenance Manager will work with and direct the Process Technician, Maintenance, and Tooling Groups. They will provide goals and direction for these groups.
Essential Functions
- Manages capital planning process, including capital needs assessment, CEP development, and management of yearly capital budget; tracks and closes projects in timely manner.
- Develop department budgets, project budgets, schedules, and timetables by analyzing engineering/maintenance requirements, area workload, and manpower availability. Monitor projects and ensure that timetables are met. Advise senior management of delays, problems, or changes.
- Work with the environmental coordinator to comply with all federal, state, county, and city recordkeeping and reporting. The environmental coordinator ensures Huhtamaki is not placed at risk for any environmental non-compliance.
- Works closely with operations departments and other Huhtamaki sites in the areas of problem solving, shared best practices, and project execution. Engineering manager will set annual, monthly and daily goals for the process technician group.
- Manages vendor relationships to ensure project goals are achieved: expenditures, equipment delivery, equipment performance specifications (throughput, safety, reliability).
- Works with other departments to ensure continuous personnel skill set upgrading to support ongoing technological improvements.
- Assists in the training and development of operators, grinders, crew leaders and supervisors in regards to equipment in the plant.
- Responsible for the overall maintenance to assure safe and efficient operation of the plant and machinery. Maintain an adequate inventory of parts/supplies for, thermoforming machines, and support equipment.
- Responsible for both preventative and normal repair of all thermoforming equipment, and its support equipment (i.e., chillers, compressed air, material handling and HVAC system).
- Responsible for hiring, career development, performance evaluation and training of subordinate staff.
- Supervises process technicians, maintenance supervisors, MCP’s, and seasonal engineering interns.
- Develop ongoing list of ergonomic improvement projects. Execute projects through local funding or through capital program. Work with Duffy Rath to improve work functions and ergonomics for all employees.
Job Qualifications
- Requires a BS Engineering degree or degree in Industrial Maintenance or closely related program with at least some combination of 10 years industrial, manufacturing and Maintenance supervision experience.
- Progressive experience in manufacturing management: Thermoforming experience preferred.
- Experience with plant safety management systems
- 5 years with solid track record of engineering project management, Project Management certification/training a plus
- Experience with direct management of technical personnel
- Experience with development of capital projects and budgets
- Strong technical experience base with plant operations and equipment systems.
- Computer literate: MS Office; MS Project and CAD experience a plus.
- Knowledge of ERP software system as related to manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Preventative Maintenance programs
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to present information one on one and in group settings, at all levels of the organization, under all circumstances.
- Detail oriented, organized.
- Self-starter; flexible; change agent.
- Must be able to work concurrently on multiple priorities and projects.
- Physical requirements include ability to see, speak and hear; ability to climb, walk, bend and stoop (troubleshooting, project start-ups, employee training); ability to use hands and fingers (computers, troubleshooting); some automobile or air travel is required.
Environment
Will work in a manufacturing environment and will use the following equipment: electronic diagnostic equipment, hand tools, computer, printer, copier, and telephone. Requires walking (40%), standing (30%) and sitting (30%). Requires full range of body motion such as twisting, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching at/above/below shoulders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Required PPE: hair/beard net, safety glasses and ear plugs. Will be required on occasion to travel by plane and auto for training and exposure to new processes and equipment, visiting vendors/ customers, etc.
