The Equipment Manufacturing group supports Huhtamaki by manufacturing tooling, machine parts, and building or upgrading machinery to support the success of our packaging plants and customers.
The Machine Shop Manager directs all aspects of a job shop type environment to deliver parts for Equipment Manufacturing. Deliver high quality components in a safe, efficient, and timely fashion. Accelerate innovation of shop processes, tooling, and machine programs. Facilitate machinist/programmer collaboration, training, and development of employee skills. Work with engineering, field service, planning, and other plant personnel to help Equipment Manufacturing provide the greatest value to Huhtamaki’s operations in North America.
Essential Functions
- Monitor, maintain, and improve shop performance. Along with Machine Shop Supervisor, provide frequent constructive feedback to employees to encourage continued improvement. Conduct regular performance reviews.
- Establish departmental budget and control costs.
- Provide the department with necessary tools and training to effectively do the job in a safe manner.
- Oversee new employee training and enhance performance of existing personnel. Inspire collaboration throughout the organization and support initiatives across the department and Huhtamaki.
- Consult with planning to develop schedules, estimate staffing requirements, and ensure delivery of components per customer requirements. Coordinate the flow of information throughout the department.
- Manage part cost and lead time quotation. Compare actual costs against standards, adjust as necessary.
- Review key performance metrics, implement corrective actions as needed to maintain results.
- Administer company policies as necessary with employees. Maintain open communication with Human Resources regarding application of these policies.
- Fulfill essential duties of the Machine Shop Supervisor as required.
Job Qualifications
Required
- Associate/bachelor’s degree, or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Must have a machining background and experience with a variety of machining centers. These include 5-axis, vertical, horizontal, and manual mills, cnc lathes, live tooling lathes, Swiss Turn, and manual lathes.
- Minimum eight years in a position of leadership. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization. Able to implement change, motivate employees and resolve conflict.
Environment
- Physical requirements: Employee will work in a manufacturing environment. Requires prolonged sitting (80%), occasional standing (10%) and occasional walking (10%). Requires twisting, stooping/bending, squatting/kneeling, and reaching above, at and below shoulder. Employee will lift and carry up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and lift to 20 pounds occasionally
