We are looking for a Sports Reporter to join our newsroom team!

Reporting to the US Sports Editor and Deputies, you will work across three of our major titles; Mirror US, Express US & Liverpool.com, concentrating on US content. Working alongside a team of dedicated Sports reporters, you will write stories for our brands with a focus on US Sports and help to grow our audience.

Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description

You will:

• Tap into the US sports audience and drive numbers through content.
• Produce multiple stories a day while actively pursuing exclusives and original pieces of content.
• Use social media to both share and aggregate stories.
• Take on breaking news lines to get snaps live within minutes.
• Enter the newsroom armed with ideas to help support the daily news agenda.
• Buy into our tabloid DNA and the product we’re bringing to the United States.
• Work with a team of sports fans in a fast-paced environment where we celebrate achievements and encourage pro-activeness.
• Be comfortable at times working on your own and becoming a dependable figure on desk.
• Have an awareness of our rivals and who our competition is.
  
  

Shift Patterns

This is an office based role working from our New York hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.

Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and can range anywhere from 10:00am ET - 12:00am ET. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm ET will have the flexibility to be completed remotely.

A level of flexibility is required in this role, as shifts are open to last minute changes as a result of live sporting events. Weekend shifts will also be required when needed.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with expert knowledge of US sports, ranging from national to college and even high school levels, along with a solid understanding of all sports, including the Premier League. This role is perfect for a storyteller eager to engage new audiences, foster growth, and drive audience numbers.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work efficiently and produce multiple articles daily while maintaining the accuracy and standards expected of a national publication. You must be able to thrive under pressure, delivering breaking news quickly and effectively.

You should have the keen ability to identify newsworthy stories and present them in a way that aligns with our brand, as well as the talent to produce exclusive and original content. Flexibility is key, as this role requires working various shifts, including weekends, evenings, and national holidays, with the possibility of attending events or games as needed.

Additionally, you should have an affinity for data, with a willingness to track and analyze audience numbers. A self-starter attitude with a proactive approach is essential to succeed in this dynamic environment.
