Our client is a leading subsidiary of a global automotive parts manufacturer, specializing in high-quality metal trim components and innovative engineering solutions for vehicle body structures and safety systems. Having steadily built a reputation as one of the most recognizable automotive parts manufacturers, they are expanding their local US team and seeking a CAD Design Engineer.
As a CAD Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality roll-formed and extruded exterior trim components that meet performance, manufacturability, and aesthetic requirements. Working in a collaborative and multicultural environment, you will play a key role in refining designs, ensuring seamless integration with vehicle structures, and driving innovation in automotive trim solutions.
If you possess expertise in CATIA V6, GD&T, exterior trim design, plastic injection molding, sheet metal, surfacing, coatings, 3D modeling, drafting, BOM (Bill of Materials), DFMEA, DFM, APQP, and PPAP, along with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes for both plastic and metal components, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and refine CAD models and detailed drawings for exterior trim components, including areas such as roofing, windshields, weather strips, seals, bumpers, grilles, rocker panels, spoilers, and moldings.
- Design plastic, composite, and metal exterior trim parts, ensuring compliance with manufacturability, assembly, and durability requirements.
- Modify and update existing designs while also creating new, innovative solutions for automotive exterior trim applications.
- Work with BIW (Body-in-White) teams to ensure proper fitment, attachment strategies, and integration with adjacent components.
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure precise tolerances and robust design specifications.
- Conduct packaging studies to ensure clearance, tolerance stack-up, and optimal fit between trim components and surrounding structures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tooling, manufacturing, and suppliers, to optimize designs for cost, weight, and performance.
- Work closely with CAE teams to evaluate structural integrity, NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness), and aerodynamics of exterior trim designs.
- Conduct DFMEA and root cause analysis to enhance product reliability and manufacturability.
- Provide technical support for prototype builds, identifying and resolving design challenges before mass production.
- Work within Japanese business culture; language skills are a plus but not required.
