At Human-I-T, we create equitable access to opportunity by providing devices, internet access, digital skills training, and tech support for communities left on the wrong side of the digital divide—while at the same time, empowering businesses and organizations to do good by diverting technology from landfills to protect our planet. We believe access to technology is a right, not a privilege. It’s what allows people to study remotely, apply for jobs, attend telehealth appointments, connect with distant family, or explore new ideas and perspectives. Opportunity Summary:

We’re delighted to welcome applications for volunteers to support Human-I-T’s electronics refurbishment operations! This is an onsite opportunity, with locations available in Los Angeles, CA and Detroit, MI. No previous experience is necessary, however we require a sustained commitment of at least 2 hours per week for at least 4 weeks. We’ll work with accepted participants to identify an agenda that help us process more than 3 million lbs of donated technology each year, through a variety of activities in our active warehouse setting. Volunteers will receive video-based and hands-on training relating to consumer electronics, workplace health and safety, tools and machines used in the IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) industry, and more!

This is an excellent opportunity for those who are seeking a career in information technology (IT), e-commerce, or logistics; students of computer science, computer repair, or business operations; or those who seek an energetic and dynamic environment. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Working in collaboration and under the supervision of our professional team, you will:

• Contribute to significant environmental and social impact by reducing e-waste and bridging the digital divide

• Gain valuable experience and skills in technology refurbishment, community service, and nonprofit operations

• Become part of a community of like-minded individuals passionate about technology, equity, and community empowerment

Examples of previous volunteer projects include:

• Sorting pallets of incoming technology donations

• Wiping or destroying hard drives

• Cleaning and restoring laptops

• Picking and packing bulk donations

• General cleaning and facility maintenance
