Summary of Duties : The Disability Coordinator Special Education Instructor administers the center’s disability and accommodations programs. Reviews applicant accommodations before arrival, develops a center accommodation plan with the applicant / student, and works with instructors to implement the plan. Monitors and updates accommodation effectiveness in CIS.
Academic Instructors Must :

Utilizes a variety of assessment tools and analyzes student data to develop individualized accommodations for instruction.
Collaborates with teams, co-teaches lessons, and does demonstration teaching.
Possess Knowledge and demonstrates use of 21st Century skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem solving, communicating, collaborating, and finding and evaluating information)
Exhibits strong skills in oral and written communication and utilize technology for communication and instruction.
Demonstrates organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision.
Displays evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practices to continuously improve student learning and instructional methods.
Displays enjoyment, humor, and enthusiasm for teaching and creates an environment for students to enjoy learning.
Description of Duties :
Serves as the Reasonable Accommodations Committee (RAC) chair or co-chair. Regularly schedules RAC meetings maintaining minutes and documenting outcomes.
Review applicant’s request or need for accommodations to participate in the Job Corps program or recommends denial of the applicant to the Regional Office.
Contacts students before they arrive on center to determine their accommodations and needs.
Assists the applicant / student in determining the needed accommodations by identifying the functional limitations resulting from the disability. Works with instructors to implement required accommodations.
Considers accessibility needs and barrier removal for all areas on center to implement accommodation.
Meets with the students when issues with implementation of effectiveness of accommodations are identified during the effectiveness review process and when referrals are made that indicate an accommodation plan review is needed. Documents all interactions in CIS.
Assists with accommodation review during the work-based learning and transition periods.
Reviews TABE waiver requests to evaluate accommodation supports and effectiveness, makes recommendations about additional accommodation needs, if appropriate.
Ensures that the Disability Accommodations program is administered within DOL, corporate and center guidelines.
Meets with student and Health and Wellness Department to ensure medical needs are coordinated.
At least biweekly, e-mails the staff members (who interact with students), a list of students with accommodation plans available in CIS.
Determines eligibility and makes requests for funding for disability accommodations either at the center or regional / national level, documenting in CIS
Develops accommodations and teaches test taking skills that assist the student with ELL, TABE, HSE / HSD, college entrance and ASVAB exams.
Assists with additional curriculum development.
Works on special projects as it relates to CDSS, continuing education and other special learning projects.
Enters information into the CIS and keeps necessary files and records.
Maintains accurate hard and electronic copy files as necessary to ensure department meets DOL, corporate, and center expectations.
Promotes an atmosphere within the classroom / training environment that is positive, safe and conducive to learning, maximizing student motivation and outcomes.
