What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Specialist position at Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc.?
- Responsible for the development of the Youth Behavioral Health Treat Assessment processes, in partnership with BBH.
- Establish comprehensive Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the local education agencies (LEAs), community behavioral health providers (e.g., Regional Youth Service Centers), and other youth-serving that outline roles and responsibilities pertaining to Youth Behavioral Health Threat Assessments (BHTA).
- Respond to all referrals from the West Virginia Fusion Center, LEAs, or other youth-serving entities within one business day.
- Complete a BHTA within five business days after receipt of referral.
- Provide training and technical assistance to schools and youth-serving entities regarding the BHTA process and community-based services and support.
- Establish or participate in threat assessment teams within schools or LEAs.
- Prepares reports and data as required for the grant. Ensure that data/reporting is accurate, complete, legible, and submitted on time.
- Plan and schedule follow-ups for all referrals.
- Collaborate with BBH to develop a uniform behavioral health threat assessment within the state.
- Link referred students to appropriate community-based services and supports.
- Define roles and responsibilities to be performed by designated BHTA members.
- Provide behavioral health awareness training for staff, students, and parents.
- Implement and maintain confidential reporting procedures and requirements per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Establish policies and procedures in collaboration with schools or LEAs for the development of proactive and preventative interventions and supports for students and staff members.
- Establish policies and procedures for providing mental health support with a combination of school and community-based mental health professionals that provide a continuum of services for students and staff.
- Engage prevention resource officers (PRO), school resource officers (SRO), law enforcement, and other youth-serving entities in the BHTA process.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, humanities, business, or industrial relations; however, a degree may be substituted with six years of demonstrated employment experience as a professional in the mental health field or education which directly relate to the job description herein and the minimum of a High School diploma. An ability to read, analyze, and interpret action plans, professional journals, governmental regulations and/or company policies and procedures. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and case management notes. Must be skilled to develop and monitor work and training competency-based activities. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from youth, public groups, employers, and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Must possess Basic Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Individuals employed in this position must be able to lift a maximum up to 20 pounds with or without an accommodation. The employee must demonstrate the required traits and skills necessary to meet the responsibilities of the position described herein. Due to the nature of this position, the applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and must have adequate transportation to perform this job. Adequate transportation is defined as: 1) personal ownership of a reliable vehicle, or 2) the leasing of a vehicle. Must be willing to transport participants. Must be willing to work evenings/weekends. Office location for this position is flexible within North-Central West Virginia.
