Campaign Digital Organizer

HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN INC
Washington, DC Full Time
POSTED ON 4/2/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/2/2025

Position Summary:

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization, is seeking a politically engaged, tech-savvy professional for our digital campaign organizing efforts with a keen focus on online social media engagement and grassroots growth and activation. This position reports to the State Director but is an integral part of the organizing work across three teams. In this role, you will design, implement, and manage digital strategies that support our campaign initiatives, amplify our message, and mobilize our community across various online platforms.

This is the ideal role for a high-caliber campaign organizer who has served on multiple campaigns, is proficient with all forms of social media and understands the symbiosis between digital and field organizing. The right candidate will bring a creative lens to digital organizing work and be responsible for managing the creation and successful implementation of campaign activities across a wide range of platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and other social properties.  Your work will be crucial in driving national grassroots participation, ensuring that our digital presence effectively resonates with target audiences, and maintaining a secure, organized digital infrastructure. If you are passionate about leveraging digital platforms to drive political change and mobilize communities, we invite you to join our dynamic team and make a lasting impact on our political landscape.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Strategy & Content Creation:
    • Oversee social media planning, content creation, and community engagement across platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging channels specifically as it relates to in-state social properties and national activation moments.
    • Craft compelling, politically resonant messages, visuals, and multimedia content that align with our campaign objectives.
    • Develop and implement earned and paid social media advertising strategies to maximize reach and engagement with diverse demographics.
    • Develop and execute comprehensive digital organizing strategies tailored to campaigns and advocacy efforts.
    • Create and manage targeted online campaigns designed to boost voter engagement, drive political participation, and promote key policy initiatives.
    • Monitor political trends, public sentiment, and competitor activities to adjust campaign tactics in real-time.
    • Manage existing state-specific social channels in battleground states.
    • Seek out and create new spaces for HRC to engage in and build community online, from subreddits to Facebook Groups to online forums

  • Digital Asset & Data Management:
    • Organize, maintain, and secure digital assets, including campaign materials, ensuring compliance with data protection laws.
    • Use analytics tools to monitor digital performance, track engagement metrics, and report on the effectiveness of online campaign strategies.
    • Collaborate with IT and data security teams as requested to safeguard digital information against threats and breaches.

  • Community Mobilization & Grassroots Engagement:
    • Act as a liaison between online communities and on-ground campaign teams, facilitating rapid communication and coordinated action.
    • Develop digital outreach initiatives that encourage community organizing, volunteer mobilization, and grassroots advocacy - with a particular focus on moving on-line engagement to real life actions.
    • Manage online forums, live streams, digital days of action, and virtual town halls to foster dialogue and collect feedback from supporters.
    • Use digital tools to recruit new supporters, move them up a ladder of volunteer engagement, and deepen their relationship with HRC.
    • Develop and implement targeted digital outreach strategies to engage diverse communities and marginalized groups in HRC’s work.
    • Craft language for mass email communications for grassroots activations.

  • Collaboration & Training:
    • Working closely with the Campaigns, Brand and Communications teams, provide content from the field that aligns with overall campaign goals and can be used across HRC social channels and digital media.
    • Provide training and support to team members on digital tools, social media best practices, and digital organizing strategies.
    • Lead workshops and webinars to educate supporters on effective online engagement and digital activism.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • At least three cycles of volunteer or paid organizing experience in an issue campaign or candidate campaign. Experience as a digital organizer in at least one campaign cycle strongly preferred.
  • A robust understanding of social media strategies in a campaign organizing context.
  • Ability to identify strategic opportunities for HRC and partner organizations to engage online to advance LGBTQ equality, and have a sense for when those opportunities could be enhanced with offline and direct action.
  • Proficiency with digital asset management tools, social media platforms, and analytics software (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Google Analytics).
  • Experience making live calls to voters, hosting phone/text banks, or call-center experience is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to craft clear, persuasive messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and crisis management.
  • Commitment to LGBTQ equality, and to racial justice and equity, with an understanding of how intersecting identities impact LGBTQ individuals and communities.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with an ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and priorities, and thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced campaign environment
  • Must be a team player and be eager to jump into on-the-ground support for a range of activities in a campaign environment, including pressers, rallies, phonebanks, summits and conferences and lobby days.
  • Must be able to commit to significant nationwide, overnight, multi-day and/or weekend travel, often with minimal notice.
  • Proficiency in graphic design or video editing tools is a plus.
