The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: • Conducts an interrogatory and ascertains whether an individual has the jurisdictional basis to file a complaint.• Perform in-person/telephone intake of new complaints and enter new mail-in complaints into the Case Management System (CMS).• Process and distribute case-related mail/document gathering• Assist Human Rights Specialists in preparing/gathering evidence in files.• Facilitate the conciliation of complaints by assisting Complainants/Respondents in arriving at a mutually agreeable resolution to the complaint.• Under the guidance of Human Rights Specialists 1 and 2, schedule investigative activities.• Utilizes the Case Management System (CMS) to document and track investigative progress of complaints, schedule interviews, and generate forms.• Conducts inventory of all physical case files in the unit/office.• Other title-appropriate duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications *This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).Current New York State Division of Human Rights employee with one year or more permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service as a Program Aide and are interested in reassignment; OR current New York State employees with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service in a position at SG-11 or above and eligible for transfer under section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience performing clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional work in an office environment.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
